Researchers Find Coronavirus in Hospital Air Ducts

Samples taken from sink and toilet used by a patient with Covid-19 also contained SARS-COV-2.

Traces of the new Coronavirus (SARS-COV-2) were found in an air duct of a hospital in Singapore. Research suggests that small virus loaded respiratory droplets can be moved by airflow and deposited in the ventilation system openings.

However, there is no scientific evidence that the pathogen can be disseminated from negative pressure isolation rooms, according to teacher Leo Yee Sin, executive director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID) of the Asian country .

Samples withdrawn from the sink and toilet used by a patient with Covid-19 also presented a positive result in the presence of SARS-COV-2, while the post-cleaning samples presented a negative result, suggesting that the current decontamination measures of these environments sufficient to sanitize them.

For Professor Kenneth Mak, Director of Medical Services of the Singapore Ministry of Health, NCID discoveries are consistent, since air conditioning systems of isolation rooms are not equal to the residential devices, which are at the top of the wall and They produce positive pressure.
